Partition cloning

Prepare

a. If you want to clone a partition to external hard drive, please connect the external hard drive to your computer before starting MagicCute Data Backup.
b. If you want to clone a USB stick, please make sure the stick has at least one partition.

There should be at least one partition in your target hard drive. If your hard drive is a new purchase without initialization, please refer to
Partition a hard drive in Windows to create a partition in your external hard drive first.

Step 1.  Select the source Partition

In Main menu, select the partition and click "Clone to another Volume" button.

After clicking "Clone to another Volume", you may get the messages below:

It is not an error or warming. This message just remind you if you have install windows update patch(es) or new program, you should reboot the computer before cloning the system partition or system disk.

Step 2. Select Target Partition

Click "Next" to continue. All unavailable targets will be mark as grey.
For example:
You can not restore the current system partition while you are working on it;
You can not select the partition where stores the image file.

If you want to know why a partition is grey, you may move the course to the item and stay for a while. A tooltip will be displayed.

Step 3. Confirm your selection

There are two main sections in this page. The Source section indicates the information of the source volume.

The Target Section indicates the physical information and the orginal file system information on target partition.
The orginal file system information helps you to avoid selecting a wrong target.

If you are sure the selections are correct, click Finish to start the clone process.

Note:

a. Only cloning a smaller partition to a bigger partition is available. Cloning a bigger partition to a smaller one is not allowed.
b. If you clone a smaller partition to a bigger one, MagicCute will extend the cloned file system from the source partition to make full use of the rest space in target partition.
